For your very best friends

I saw this book and thought it would be such a great birthday present for my best friend - I know she will appreciate the thought and sentiment that I’m planning to put into it. I ordered it early so there would be plenty of time to come up with thoughtful answers for the questions (I’ve got till January!) This book is really cute - even though I paid attention to the dimensions I was still surprised at how small it was. It’s just hard to imagine such a little book. It is about the size of the palm of my hand.

There are some fun prompts in this book although they do seem a little repetitive, so you’ll have to be thoughtful to fill out this book without giving the same answers for multiple prompts. The prompts are pretty open ended too, so you can be creative with your responses. For example: “you ___ the best ___ ever” or “I am so ___ that ___” could be filled in with so many different answers. I also like that the pages have a lot of blank space so I can write long answers or additional memories on the page if I want to. I’m going to enjoy filling out this book, and I’m sure my friend will love it. If you’ve got a sentimental best friend of your own, I’d recommend giving this book a try.

For anyone who loves thoughtful.

Some of the questions seem repetitive and it can be tough to come up with clever answers. I'm in my 30's and my best friend in her 40's and she LOVED it and sent me these photos as she went through it with jokes about what I'd written. For someone who enjoys thoughtful gifts that take a little time I recommend it, especially if you can play with your answers a bit. It would be nice if it had other things more related to memories you share, but it was still fine. I also cut out a few little pictures and taped them inside for fun.

Brought a kid lots of smiles and a mom some happy tears.

I bought this gift for a nine year old boy that I work with. I regularly tell him how awesome he is, because he is the absolutely coolest kid I've ever met. I felt that for his birthday, I would let him in on why I think he's so awesome, and this book perfectly fit the bill. I spent a lot of time carefully thinking of clever or nostalgic lines to write in the book; I even typed up all 50 reasons and my responses on my computer so I could think each one one over. When I surprised him with the book on his birthday, he had a smile ear to ear while reading every entry; it even made his mom cry (happy tears of course). The real genius of the book is that it forces you to think back on your relationship with your recipient, and hopefully brings a smile to your face as you think of and remember how great that person really is.

this is a textbook from a class I am tacking online from Rice University and a must textbook for anyone tacking this class either online or on campus, clearly written in such a manner that makes it clearly understood and very easy to read,, a must read for anyone interested in the topic

Ambitious, but lacking

This book is a good primer for anybody wanting to get into electrical engineering or start discovering and understanding electronics. But, it's still difficult to follow, easy to get lost, ie - not a great textbook. The information is all there, but not the most cohesive. It's almost as if it tries to cover everything, but dumb it down for the least common denominator, er, um, student. What plays out are lacking half-explanations of LaPlace transforms, a few pages of handwaving for some key principles (transistor models, anyone?), and, due to poor book design, examples that run into the actual text.
It tries to teach by going through examples, which would be fine if what was trying to be taught was somewhere expounded in a more thorough theoretical form in the text, which it's not.
What amazes me is how big this book is, given what I just mentioned above. They had plenty of pages to fill, and somehow didn't fit in all the stuff they should have.
Still, you can learn a lot from the book!

While the new breed of Bel Ami models undoubtedly do not measure up (no pun intended) to the earlier days of Lukas Ridgeston and Sebastian Bonnet, the book itself is a tour du force from Rick Day and no one who appreciates his brilliant work or the beauty of the Bel Ami boys should be without it. Do not be put off by the price tag - this book is worth it's price and more. You will turn every beautiful page in eager anticipation of what comes next, and Rick Day does not disappoint once. On the contrary, he succeeds in making you (the spectator) feel as if you were part of the whole experience of creating and capturing these fantastical images that play with all your senses. In true Bel Ami style, everyone and everything are beautiful. Long live Rick Day! Long live Bel Ami!

Wow. This is quite an impressive body of work from Rick Day. If you are a fan of Bel Ami then this will definitely satisfy your eyes. The boys in a natural background created beautiful contrasts between flesh-tones and colorful settings of nature. This couldn't have been done better.

Overall its a very useful book

What I liked:
1) Small examples. Since I was able to download source code, I could try on my own
2) Exam tips sprinkled all around the book were useful when taking the exam
3) The day before the exam I went through the summary in each chapter and it helped answering some exam questions correctly

What could be better:
1) One more mock test would have helped

Good Quality Book

I was looking out for quality sample questions to prepare for OCPJP 8 exam but also wanted to read about Java 8 features. So I bought this book and Java 8 features were explained in detail with amusing examples. Also the questions in each chapter of the book are of high quality and the mock exam is really good. A good read.

Good book with useful resources

Good book. Since the source code is available for free download, trying out the programs along with reading helped in having better understanding of the concepts. I think ocpjava.wordpress.com is also maintained by authors, I find very useful resources there.
