Women: Masters or Mothers? presents traditionalist arguments for the direction of the Krishna consciousness movement, proposing that we should take up Srila Prabhupada's mandate to establish varnasrama-dharma rather than capitulate to the norms and ideologies of secular culture. Particularly discussed are gender roles, parental responsibilities, feminist follies, and some of Srila Prabhupada's more controversial teachings, such as those concerning early marriage, divorce, and polygamy.

Review
"This book draws attention to the danger for ISKCON in assimilating ideas wholesale from mainstream society, in the course of preaching. It makes an urgent appeal to members to practise Kṛṣṇa consciousness without striking compromises with materialistic society. I urge those who are wary of picking upWomen: Masters or Mothers? to disabuse their minds of prejudice and preconceived notions, and to take a good, hard look at what it proposes."- Su-gītā Vāṇī Devī Dāsī (Teacher at Mayapur Institute)

devoted mother and a chaste housewife is the best thing for women all over the world and how ...
By lalita gupta
A few lines from the book: "In every traditional culture in the world, it was axiomatically understood that a woman's primary role is that of a mother. Yet feminists consider that to be a stay-at-home mother and housewife is the most absurd, demeaning, anti-female thing a woman could do". This book presents, in a very systematic and logical way, that how being a God conscious, devoted mother and a chaste housewife is the best thing for women all over the world and how this can restore our broken down society with so many single parent families and can bring back the lost happiness in family life which is pretty the norm nowadays. I learnt a lot from reading the book and would recommend it to everyone who is looking for a happy, peaceful and God conscious family life.

Guru-parampara explanation of Krsna's system of women's role in a perfect society.
By Amazon Customer
I welcome the publication of Women, masters or mothers book by His Holiness Bhakti Vikasa Swami. Being categorized as an 'educated western woman' and conditioned by the God-given abilities, for years I wasn't even aware that I'm unconsciously competing with men and acting contrary to my dharma (the guidelines for society that Krsna Himself has set). I was asked to be engaged in several preaching projects, sometimes even leading positions, and I gladly accepted them. After getting married I encountered several difficulties by not understanding that varnasrama roles for men and women coincide with the male and female psychology and are meant to bring peace and prosperity - into marriage and society at large.
Even after theoretically accepting the position of women in society as described by Srila Prabhupada in his books, it took me more than 20 years to actually start taking up that mood - not because I was supposed to, but because of the benefits it brings. My personal experience is that after I've understood that the power of vaisnavis and their way of influence is by supporting the 'vaisnavas in the front', I've become a lot more peaceful and - for the matter - more respected. I can see that the devotees in male bodies feel grateful for helping them perform their duty by performing mine. As we respect a sannyasi who is very renounced, a householder who is very dutiful and responsible, so a woman who is respectful, sweet, shy, patient, merciful, gentle etc. naturally commands respect (actually these are all the original transcendental qualities of Srimati Radharani!).
The book Women, masters or mothers is very precious because it brings a rich compilation of Srila Prabhupada's instructions for his female followers, enriched with broader explanatory text by Bhakti Vikasa Swami and modern ISKCON examples. I encourage every vaisnavi to open-mindedly research the contents of this book, at least theoretically accepting that it presents Krsna's system of women's role in a perfect society. And for the braver ones who are willing to try applying those principles in personal lives - just see the shower of blessings coming upon you!

Mother as the first guru
By sridhar
The author has presented rare and valuable information on vedic culture of life in a very systematic detailed manner with clear backing of Vedic scriptures, Srila Prabhupada' the founder Achary's statements and very realistic reasoning.
Even if someone is not ready to accept the statements of vedic scriptures cannot refute the logical reasoning presented within the book related to how a woman body is a natural fit for being a mother and a natural fit for being a master of no other activities of life except being a mother. Thus this book presents the single most important, unique and highest contribution of the woman body to the society, thereby highlighting the mother as the first guru.
Many may object this book but without a proper justification to their objections their objections stands nullified. All the objections that we have seen so far have been on sentimental or emotional platform even if it is raised by a man.
